Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf has launched a new empowerment program that would give N50,000 to 5,200 women every month.
The governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, announced this yesterday in a statement.
During the program’s launch at the Government House in Kano, the governor said each of the 5,200 women from all 44 local councils in the state would get the money, totalling N260 million, every month until the end of his time in office.
The governor described the grant as a way to help women start small businesses and improve their finances, considering the responsibilities they bear.
He said the program, managed by the Community Re-orientation Committee (CRC), will help 100 women from each of the 36 rural local councils and 200 women from each of the eight big city local councils.
Governor Yusuf said this help is to thank the women for supporting him during the 2023 elections.
He said: “This is a token of appreciation for your support and dedication during the 2023 election campaign.
“We committed to assist you in taking care of yourselves and your families. We vowed to help you become self-sufficient and ensure your well-being, particularly pregnant women and children among you.”
