Lagos Helicopter Crash Preliminary Report

The Accident Investigation Bureau AIB has released a preliminary report on the helicopter crash that occured at the Opebi area of Lagos State on August 28, 2020helicopter crash that occured at the Opebi area of Lagos State on August 28, 2020.

The accident which involved a Bell 206 B III Helicopter with nationality and registration marks 5N-BQW was operated by Quorum Aviation Limited.

In the report, the AIB revealed that the helicopter crash may have been due to insufficient fuel in the tank.

The 15 page report released on Monday also stated that the helicopter had a full tank capacity the day before the accident, but was then taken for a 20 minute test flight afterwards.

It was also learnt that the pilot released fuel from the helicopter just before the crash to avoid an explosion when it hit the ground.

The findings also include the helicopter having a valid certificate of air worthiness, although the investigation is still to be concluded.
