JAMB Reveals Plans To Increase UTME Fees From N3,500 To N5,000

Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Registrar, Ishaq Oloyede has made new proposal seeking for the exam body to be granted permission to increase it’s UTME fees.

Oloyede, who appeared before the House of Representatives Committee on Finance on Wednesday, said the body is seeking to exit the annual budget but must be given permission to increase UTME fees to N5,000 from N3,500.

The registrar disclosed that the fees were reduced in 2017 because the body is not a revenue-generating agency, however, inflation and other economic realities now call for drastic measures.

When confronted by lawmakers on the impact of the proposed increment on parents, Oloyede responded that some parents pay extra for miracle centres.

He stated that the proposed increment is insignificant but will allow the body to be fully independent.

JAMB Reveals Reasons For Cancellation Of Mop-Up UTME

Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced the cancelation of the mop-up exam which was launched in 2017.

Goldennewsng reports that JAMB in a statement on Monday insisted that all candidates must be biometrically verified before taking the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

It said this will help it curb exam malpractice.

The board in its Weekly Bulletin from the office of the Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, explained that the latest development emanated from the management’s rigorous review of the 2022 UTME exercise with the need to close all loopholes noticed during the examination.

There’s No Cut-off Mark, We Don’t Decide Cut-off Mark – JAMB

JAMB’s Head of Public Affairs and Protocol, Fabian Benjamin, made the clarification while commenting on a statement made by Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, former president, Prof. Nasir Fagge.

Benjamin stated that what is called cut-off mark reported to have always come from JAMB was never the board’s affair.

He reinstated that all tertiary institutions have the right to make decisions on their criteria for admission.

A part of the statement by JAMB read, “There is nothing like a uniform minimum national Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) score for any of the tiers of tertiary institutions and neither does the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board decide any such requirement for any institution.

“The Board does not and has never determined any uniform national UTME scores otherwise known as cut-off mark by the general public for any tertiary institution because, in actual sense, there are no uniform national UTME scores.

“The lucid process of admission which the former President of the Academic Staff Union of University, Prof. Nasir Fagge, expounded and which was published in Premium Times is the exact process being followed in the conduct of admission exercise to tertiary institutions in the country.

“This process has even been improved upon with the elimination of human interference through its full automation with the introduction of the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS).”

NABTEB Is No Longer Recognized For For Direct Entry – JAMB

The registrar of JAMB, Professor Ishaq Oloyede disclosed this during the 2022 policy meeting which is currently holding at the International Conference Centre in Abuja.

“The Honorable minister of education has approved that the NABTEB A’level GCE will no longer be recognized as a qualification for DE from 2022. However, all those who have already obtained it prior to this date will be able to use it,” Oloyede said.

Speaking further at the policy meeting, Oloyede highlighted some of the challenges faced by the board in the conduct of the 2022 UTME/ DE examination.

He listed the challenges as follows; examination malpractices, impersonation and substitution of real candidates by paid examination takers, fraudulent CBT owners who sabotage examination, parents encouraging examination malpractices, mass cheating by syndicates, prolonged investigation and prosecution.

UTME: How JAMB Used NIN To Tackle Exam Malpractice – FG

Malam Adamu Adamu, the Minister of Education spoke on Thursday.

He revealed how JAMB succeeded in using NIN to reduce examination malpractice during the 2022 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME.

Adamu disclosed this during the 2022 policy meeting on admissions to tertiary institutions in Nigeria, held in Abuja.

According to Adamu, “The introduction of the mandatory National Identification Number (NIN) for JAMB registration has yielded humongous positive impact as a potent instrument in the fight against examination malpractices.

“The 2022 UTME was the best, so far, as there were minimal cases of examination malpractices owing to the collaboration and other technological interventions deployed by JAMB.

“The Ministry would continue to provide leadership support and encouragement to JAMB pursuant to its official mandates. I hereby urge other examination bodies to emulate JAMB in all these positive directions.”

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has said that tertiary institutions in Nigeria were unable to conduct the 2021 admissions within the time frame due to constraints imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

This is as the board noted that it would meet with institutions and other agencies to determine the 2022 admissions cut-off, among others, on Thursday, July 21, 2022.
These were disclosed in the board’s weekly bulletin, which was made available to Goldennewsng Nigeria in Abuja on Monday.

JAMB Refutes Error In Its Scoring System, Reacts To Plans To Organize Another UTME

JAMB has again refuted errors in its scoring system and also reacted to plans to organize another UTME.

GoldenNewsNg reports that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has denied reports of error in the scoring of candidates in the just concluded 2022 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

This is as the examination body has warned the public, especially candidates at the just concluded UTME against the deceitful and other unsavoury activities of fraudsters who were making false claims of errors in the scoring system.

This disclosure is contained in a statement issued by JAMB’s Head, Public Affairs and Protocol, Dr Fabian Benjamin, and made available to journalists in Abuja on Tuesday.

Benjamin said that the board is insisting that the UTME was a Computer Based Test (CBT) that was scored electronically with no human mediation whatsoever, as well as debunked rumour of plans to organize another UTME.

What the JAMB’s spokesman is saying

Benjamin in the statement said, “Consequently, the unfounded

rumours making the rounds are nothing but the products of the deceitful brains of the masterminds of these baseless imputations.

“Hence, the board reiterates that there is no room for errors in its electronic scoring system nor does it plan to organise another UTME.

“This clarification became necessary following reports of a purported rescheduling of the UTME from a section of the social media citing phantom errors in the computer scoring system and a purported apology from JAMB to the effect that another UTME would be organised.
