4. Biafra…Between The Past And Future

WHEN Okey Anueyiagu wrote Biafra: The Horrors of War, The Story of a Child-Soldier, it struck a nerve in the readers. It became storytelling so critically assuring and involving that it has become difficult and hard to imagine anyone reading it without being mesmerized. The book provides a genuinely radical new highlight and insight into that sordid war and fits so tightly with great illumination at this riven and pivotal moment in the history of Nigeria and of the world.

Living with that war and actively participating in it, breathing it and sucking in all the evilness of it, exposes Okey to all the pulses of his life and the lives of the millions that perished in that war with immense and indescribable relevance and indelible memories. Okey has pulled off something remarkable, something ‘unmissable,’ unforgettable, timely and timeless.

The book portrays a classic case of one generation’s cry from the heart to another’s elusive quest for a life of bliss and tranquillity; a breathless nuance of sadness, bitterness, cries and soullessness.

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has ordered for the immediate release of its arrested member by the Nigeria police force.

GoldenNewsNg reports that the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has ordered Enugu State Police Command to release one Mazi Ofornedu Okoafor.

In a statement signed by its spokesman, Emma Powerful sent to NewsOnline Nigeria alleged that men of the Enugu State Police Command and soldiers had picked up Okoafor alongside his grandfather on August 23rd, 2020 while receiving treatment at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital in the State.

The proscribed group called on the Enugu State Police Commissioner to release Okoafor from custody before it’s too late.

7. Why South-East Governors Can’t Defend IPOB Members – Guber Aspirant
Anambra Gubernatorial Aspirant, Nnamdi Nnoruka has revealed why South-East Governors Can’t Defend IPOB Members.

Nnamdi Nnoruka is a gubernatorial aspirant on the platform of the Labour Party (LP) in the Anambra State 2021 election.

GoldenNewsNg reports that Nnamdi Nnoruka has expressed disappointment over the indifferent disposition of South-East governors towards defending Biafra agitators.

He frowned at the recent killing of members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in Enugu, wondering why the governors were yet to make a categorical statement on the ugly development.

8. Enugu Killing: Gov. Ugwuanyi Expresses Concern, Makes New Promise To Citizens
Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has expressed concern over the recent civil disturbances and killing in the state.

Ugwuanyi made this known to newsmen following an emergency Security Council meeting with all the heads of security agencies in the state.

During the meeting, Ugwuanyi reiterated his commitment to unravel the causes of the civil disturbances of August 23, 2020 (Enugu Killing), as well as put further machinery in motion to forestall future re-occurrence.

Addressing newsmen after the meeting which took place at the EXCO Chambers of the Lion Building, Government House, Enugu, Gov. Ugwuanyi expressed sadness over the loss of lives during the untoward events.

8. DSS Vs IPOB: Peter Obi Breaks Silence Over Killing Of Unarmed Youths

Former Anambra Governor, Peter Obi, has strongly condemned the recent killing of IPOB Members in Emene, Enugu State.

GoldenNewsNg reported that a clash between the Department of States Services (DSS) and Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) a week ago left some persons dead.

The DSS confirmed that it lost two operatives.

The Biafra agitators too said members were killed, with many currently in detention or missing.

On Saturday, Obi stated his position regarding the killing on Twitter.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Vice Presidential Candidate in 2019 demanded a thorough investigation into the matter.

“The recent killing of unarmed youths in Enugu is condemnable, just as the senseless killing of Nigerians in any part of the country.

“I join well-meaning Nigerians in calling for a panel of inquiry to be set up to unravel the circumstances surrounding the killing to avoid such recklessness in the future”, he tweeted.

9. DSS Vs IPOB Probe: Coalition Warns Against Halting Findings
The coalition of Igbo Groups has insisted on a thorough probe of the Enugu killings, warned against halting findings.

GoldenNewsNg reports that the Coalition of Igbo Groups has reacted to the ongoing investigation of the mass killings of members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, by suspected operatives of the combined team of Department of Security Services, DSS, Nigeria Army and Police.

This online news medium recalls that some members of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) were feared killed in Enugu State by security operatives on Sunday.

DSS had stormed Community Secondary School, Emene where members of IPOB were meeting.

However, attempt to arrest the IPOB members was resisted, leading to a face-off.

Several gunshots were reportedly fired, leading to heavy casualties.

While condemning the ugly scenario, an Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council, OYC, constituted panel of Inquiry to independently ascertain the circumstances surrounding the death of 21 persons suspected to be Igbo youths.

10. Enugu Massacre: Forget IPOB, They Are Ndigbo

A famous Nigerian politician once said (in spirited defense of the Yoruba) that “before I became a Nigerian, I was Yoruba”. And another one said: “We will write this for all to read. Anyone, soldier or not that kills the Fulani takes a loan repayable one day no matter how long it takes”.

The Yoruba has, in moderation, said his own. The Fulani has, in extremism, said his own; let me now, as an Igbo, say my own, and here it is: Whoever takes the life of an IPOB member is taking the life of an Igbo and therefore will ultimately account to Ndigbo. It’s not a threat; it’s a fact.

When I read about the senseless and criminal massacre of unarmed innocents who gathered in Enugu on August 23, 2020 in peaceable exercise of their constitutional rights, I quickly began to search the news to learn more and I learnt plenty, including particularly the somewhat dismissive refrain that “those killed are just IPOB members”.

11. Like Jesus Christ, I’ve Been Tempted To Abandon Biafra — Nnamdi Kanu

Like Jesus Christ, I Have Been Tempted To Abandon Biafra struggle, Nnamdi Kanu cries out in a new broadcast.

GoldenNewsNg reports that the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu has revealed the temptation he is facing in the restoration of Biafra.

According to Kanu, he sometimes thought of abandoning the struggle for the restoration of Biafra.

KANU made this statement while reacting to the clash on Sunday 23 August between the members of IPOB and the Department of State Security Service, DSS.

In his statement, the Kanu said just like Jesus Christ asking God “if it be possible, let this cup pass from me” at the garden of Gethsemane, he has often time thought of acting the same way.

12. Biafra Is A Promise, Not A Threat To Nigeria – Igbo Lawyers

Igbo Lawyers has revealed that Biafra is a promise and not a threat to Nigeria.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that a league of Igbo Youth Lawyers has asked the Federal Government to desist from applying force in handling issues concerning the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and other similar groups in the country.

According to the group, ‘Biafra project is a promise and not a threat to Nigeria’.

Delivering a paper titled “Preserving corporate Nigeria, Issues and Evacuation” during a town hall meeting in Awka, President of the group, Stanley Okafor, insisted application of force in resolving restiveness and insecurity in the country would rather aggravate the already tensed milieu.
