Update on NPower: New Minister Takes Charge, Bringing Hope for Impoverished Nigerians.

Dr. Betta Chimaobim Edu has become the leader of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation in Nigeria. She began her new role on Monday at the ministry’s main office in Abuja. Her arrival has ignited hope for the 136 million people living in poverty in Nigeria.

This information is based on an official announcement made by Rhoda Iliya, the Deputy Director of Information at the Ministry. Dr. Edu has formally changed the ministry’s name from the “Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development” to the “Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.”

The reason for this change is to bring more happiness and support to the people of Nigeria. Dr. Edu has committed to working diligently during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s first term to tackle the issue of poverty in the country.

Npower Program Update: Reinstatement of Beneficiary Status and Ministerial Appointment

Recap of Recent Changes in Npower Nasims Portal

A few weeks ago, GoldenNewsNg reported a significant update carried out by Npower Nasims management on the self-service portal. This update led to the modification of certain beneficiary details on the portal, resulting in a transition of their status from “Beneficiary” to “Applicant.”

Reinstatement of Npower Batch C Beneficiary Status

On August 18, 2023, Nasims made an announcement that brought relief to N-power batch C beneficiaries. Their status within the npower program has been successfully reinstated to “BENEFICIARY” following the recent update. This reinstatement empowers beneficiaries to once again access the Nasims platform to review and verify their current status.

Dr. Betta Edu: New Minister in Charge of Npower Program

Adding to these developments, Dr. Betta Edu has been appointed as the Minister responsible for overseeing the Npower program within the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

Anticipating Program Enhancement and Stipend Resolution

This recent sequence of events has generated renewed hope among beneficiaries and stakeholders. Expectations are high that the management will work diligently to restore the Npower program to its former standard of excellence. There is also optimism that long-standing issues, such as the matter of beneficiaries’ unpaid stipends spanning over 8 months, will finally be addressed and resolved.

National Economic Council (NEC) Session and Government Interventions

In an important session of the National Economic Council (NEC) held in Abuja on August 17, 2023, several updates were presented concerning nationwide efforts to distribute essential items like rice, grains, and fertilizer to different states. Moreover, the Federal Government provided substantial financial support totaling N5 billion. During the session, the interventions initiated by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) were acknowledged and praised.

Encouraging State Governments to Prioritize Distribution of Palliatives

Consequently, the NEC applauded the actions taken by various state governments and urged them to intensify their distribution of palliative measures. These efforts are aimed at alleviating the suffering of their residents, especially those who are most vulnerable and disadvantaged.
