Dr. Betta Edu acknowledged the challenges faced in this regard and assured the public that steps are being taken to resolve them.

She emphasized a shift in the payment approach to ensure that delayed stipends are disbursed promptly. Additionally, the plan is to expand the beneficiary base and reintroduce the program with a renewed sense of hope. These statements were made during her recent interview on Radio Nigeria.

Dr. Betta Edu also emphasized that all ongoing empowerments under the National Investment Programme will undergo restructuring to make them more effective and inclusive, benefiting a wider section of the Nigerian population. “We will change the modalities so that people will get their delayed stipends, include more people, and relaunch it with a renewed hope concept,” she stated.

This announcement sheds light on the changes observed in the Nasims self-service portal dashboard, where preselection and validation processes are currently underway for applicants transitioning to beneficiaries. As a result, beneficiaries are advised to stay updated by regularly checking the Nasims self-service portal for any developments.

  1. On August 28, 2023, Dr. Betta Edu participated in the inaugural meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, held at the Presidential Villa’s Council Chamber in Abuja. During this event, she also received a courtesy visit from a House of Representatives member representing Cross River state.
  2. Later on the same day, August 28, 2023, in the evening, Dr. Betta Edu, alongside other high-level government officials including Minister of Environment Dr. Ishaq Salako, Minister of Water Resources Prof. Joseph Utsev, and Minister of State for Water Resources and Sanitation Bello Goronyo, addressed the press regarding the opening of the Lagdo dam by Cameroonian authorities. They discussed the Federal government’s plans to prevent, mitigate, and provide solutions to flooding and its associated consequences.
  3. On August 30, 2023, Dr. Betta Edu held a meeting with Mr. Shubham Chaudhuri, the World Bank Country Director, and his team.
  4. On the same day, August 30, 2023, she received briefings and presentations from the various Agencies and Parastatals under the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, gaining insights into their functions and forthcoming innovations.
  5. Moving to August 31, 2023, Dr. Betta Edu welcomed a delegation led by Loannis Plotas, the Greek Ambassador to Nigeria, who expressed Greece’s readiness to support the Federal Government’s efforts in alleviating poverty among Nigerians. The Minister also urged the Bill and Melinda Foundation to collaborate with the federal government in addressing pressing humanitarian and poverty-related challenges in Nigeria. In an interview with TVC News on the same day, Dr. Betta Edu reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to eradicating poverty in Nigeria.
  6. On August 31, 2023, Dr. Betta Edu participated in a Think Tank Engagement with key stakeholders to shape policies and set agendas for the ministry’s new mandate.
  7. Transitioning to September 1, 2023, Dr. Betta Edu joined Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, at the 2023 Grand Finale of Imo State August Meeting, hosted by Imo State’s First Lady, Barr. Chioma Uzodinma.
  8. Lastly, on September 2, 2023, during an interview on Radio Nigeria, Dr. Betta Edu unveiled President Bola Tinubu’s plans for Npower and other National Investment Programmes.
