Information Management (IM) Data & Visualisation Analyst

Job Specifications: Full Time

Location: OCHA Abuja Office (Covering Adamawa and Yobe State)

Reporting To: Head of Information Management

Job Description:

As the Information Management Data and Visualization Analyst (NOA), you will be an integral part of the OCHA Abuja Office, reporting directly to the Head of Information Management. Your responsibilities will include:

  1. Standardized Reporting and Analysis:
    • Support the development of standardized reporting formats and analyses for operational decision-making, both internally and externally.
    • Provide graphics/design support for presentations and create high-quality visual products, including infographics, maps, tables, and graphs.
  2. Information Management Support:
    • Assist OCHA field offices in planning information management activities and organize the flow of information.
    • Support the development and maintenance of comprehensive operational information products, including Who/What/Where databases, monitoring matrices, and contact lists.
  3. Global Standard IM Tools:
    • Promote and maintain the use of global standard Information Management tools and services.
  4. Stakeholder Relations:
    • Build strong relationships with the local and international community, liaise with key stakeholders, and gather information on humanitarian activities.
  5. Analysis and Reporting:
    • Collect information, analyze monitoring reports based on humanitarian indicators, and provide a coherent picture of humanitarian operations.
    • Ad-hoc collection, analysis, and dissemination of information in collaboration with other OCHA units.
  6. Client-Oriented Approach:
    • Maintain a client-oriented approach, ensuring the provision of high-quality information management services and products to the OCHA office and humanitarian community.
  7. Training and Capacity Building:
    • Provide training and capacity-building to partners on data collection, analysis, visualization tools, and best practices, including machine learning applications.
  8. Knowledge Building and Sharing:
    • Facilitate knowledge building and sharing within OCHA and offer guidance to external stakeholders on information management.
    • Contribute to the development and delivery of training curricula for field partners.
  9. Data Visualization and Analysis Tools:
    • Utilize analysis and visualization tools such as PowerBI, Tableau, ArcGIS, or Adobe products to create interactive visualizations and digital products.
  10. Continuous Learning:
    • Stay updated with the latest trends and technologies in data visualization, analysis, and machine learning.
  11. Inter-Agency Participation:
    • Participate in inter-agency meetings and working groups related to information management, data analysis, and machine learning.
  12. Ad-Hoc Tasks:
    • Assist with other tasks as directed by the Head of the Information Management Unit.

    • Capability to advise clients on system-related issues, applications, etc.

Required Skills and Experience:

Education:

  • An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in Information Management, Computer Science, Statistics, Geographic Information Systems, or a related field.
  • A first-level university degree with relevant academic qualifications and a combination of 2 years of relevant work experience will be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Experience:

  • Up to 2 years (with a Master’s degree) or 2 years (with a Bachelor’s degree) of professional experience in data analysis, visualization, and information management.
  • Experience in data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar is desirable.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R is desirable.
  • Familiarity with GIS tools like ArcGIS or QGIS is desirable.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and problem-solving capability.
  • Experience in a humanitarian context within the UN common system or in a comparable international organization is desirable.
