NITDA has recently exposed the truth behind a financial aid scheme circulating on social media under the misleading headline, “President Bola Tinubu’s ₦‎50,000 Cash Grant.”

NITDA, in a formal statement from Abuja, confirmed that this alleged monetary support to Nigerian citizens is, in fact, a well-crafted fraud. The agency’s Head of Corporate Affairs and External Relations, Mrs. Hadiza Umar, issued the warning to the public, urging them to be cautious about this deceitful scheme.

Phishing Tactics of the Dubious Grant Scheme

According to Mrs. Umar, the website associated with the supposed grant is a phishing site designed to deceive innocent citizens. Its main objective is to trick people into providing their personal and financial information, putting them at risk of identity theft and financial fraud.

The Role of NITDA’s Computer Emergency Readiness and Response Team (NITDA-CERRT)

In response to this cyber threat, NITDA-CERRT stands as the first line of defense. The team strongly advises the public to exercise caution when dealing with unfamiliar links, particularly the identified fraudulent website, ‘https://thryt.com/50k-CashGrants’, which serves as a prominent example of deceptive links.

Preventing Cyber Fraud: Tips and Measures

To safeguard yourself from falling victim to cyber fraud, it is essential to avoid clicking on suspicious websites like the aforementioned phishing link. Never disclose sensitive personal information on such platforms, regardless of how convincing they may appear.

The most effective way to protect against cybercriminals is to rely on information disseminated by the government through official channels. Citizens should stay informed via authentic sources to avoid being misled.

Mrs. Umar encourages the public to reach out to the agency’s CERRT if they have any doubts or concerns. The team can be contacted through email at cerrt@nitda.gov.ng or by phone at +234 817 877 4580. For further information, the team’s official website, www.cerrt.ng, serves as a reliable resource.

NITDA’s Commitment to Fighting Cybercrime

By shedding light on the fraudulent “President Tinubu’s ₦‎50,000 Cash Grant” scheme, NITDA continues to lead the charge against cybercrime, ensuring the safety and security of all Nigerian citizens online. Protect yourself and stay informed with NITDA’s timely updates and warnings.
