Lionel Messi to earn up to times two the current wages of Cristiano Ronaldo if he accepts a reported offer from Saudi Arabia club Al-Hilal this season.
It is recalled that Lionel Messi left FC Barcelona for Paris Saint Germain in the summer of 2021 after he could not sign a new contract with his childhood club due to a financial crisis.
Then, Messi penned two years contract with PSG with an option to extend the deal for one more year if the 35-year-old Argentine star and the French side agree to it.
However, even though the deal is set to expire on June 30, 2023, Messi and PSG are yet to reach an agreement which has sparked speculations that the Argentine football star is on his way out of Parc des Princes.
Aside from that, the PSG fans have been very brutish to him as the fans have subjected him to boos before, during, and after games that didn’t go their way.
Amidst that, Saudi Arabia club, Al-Hilal, have reportedly tabled a deal worth $438 million per year for Lionel Messi. If he signs the deal ahead of this summer transfer window, the reigning World Cup champion would earn over $223 million more than his arch-rival Ronaldo.
Note that Ronaldo who joined Al Nassr after his deal with Manchester United collapsed in the summer of 2022, is reportedly earning around $215 million per year in Saudi Arabia.
A tweet from football transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, which confirmed this transfer speculation reads, “Understand Al Hilal sent an official bid to Leo Messi: salary worth more than €400m/year.
“Leo’s absolute priority: continue in Europe. Barcelona, waiting on FFP to send the bid and open talks.
PSG bid, not accepted at this stage as Messi wanted sporting guarantees.”
