2. Medical Imaging Technology

In digital health, medical imaging is the study of the methods and machines used to make pictures of different parts of the body for diagnostic and treatment purposes. Some of the areas covered include, but are not limited to, X-ray radiography and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

This course is often called “radiography” in college.

4. Dental Technology

Dental Technology is the study of care-givings to patients with health issues and the application of devices that include dentures, crowns, bridges, and dental braces to improve patients’ appearance, speech, and ability to chew.

Of course, this is also an aspect of Dentistry in Universities.

2. In UTME, you must write English and any three (3) of Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Biology. However, FEDSTEN specifically requires Chemistry, Biology, and Physics.

5. Dental Nursing

Dental Nursing is the study of rendering adequate nursing care to the Dental patient and equally managing some minor dental diseases and care for dental patients admitted to the dental ward. Training includes running oral surgical operations.

As you might have guessed, this is another aspect of Dentistry in Universities.

7. Biomedical Engineering Technology

Biomedical engineering trains students in the management of technology-related risks in the health-care industry through the application of medical devices, including specification, inspection, calibration, repair and maintenance, and technical troubleshooting.

The course is also called Biomedical Engineering in Universities.

In environmental health technology, students are trained on the combination of both state-of-the-art measurement technology and data analytics, to provide services capable of, for instance, anomaly detection, event recognition, and situational awareness.

10. Orthopedic Cast Technology

An orthopedic cast, or just “cast,” is the study and use of a shell, usually made of plaster or fiberglass, that covers a limb (or, in some cases, large parts of the body) to stabilize and hold anatomical structures, most often a broken bone (or bones), in place until healing is confirmed. It does the same thing as a splint.

11. Pharmaceutical Technology

Pharmaceutical technology grooms for the application of scientific knowledge or technology to pharmacy, pharmacology, and the pharmaceutical industry. It includes methods, techniques, and instrumentation in the manufacture, preparation, compounding, dispensing, packaging, and storing of drugs and other preparations used in diagnostic and determinative procedures and in the treatment of patients.

This is an aspect of Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy in universities.

1. Candidates must, in SSCE possess five (5) credit passes in English Language and four (4) credit passes in Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Biology/Agricultural Science. Moreover, OGUN-POLY requires four (4) ‘O’ Level credit passes at one (1) sitting or five (5) credits at not more than two (2) sittings to include Biology, Chemistry, and Mathematics with a pass in English Language and Physics. Agricultural Science is not acceptable as an alternative to Biology.
2. In UTME, candidates must write English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics /Biology.

12. Veterinary Laboratory Technology

Veterinary Laboratory Technology equips students with the knowledge of research on various objects (blood, cadavers, organs), along with the study of their properties, composition, structure, and of the chemical and biological processes occurring in them

This is an aspect of Veterinary Medicine in universities.

Science Laboratory Technology equips students with the necessary skills and techniques for standard, everyday science laboratory work. Science Laboratory Technology Program focuses on the fundamental principles of the biological and physical sciences and emphasizes analytical laboratory techniques and applications, specifically in the realms of chemistry and biology.

14. Nutrition and Dietetics 

Nutrition and Dietetics train students on the use of nutrition and food to help people improve their health. Nutrition and dietetic technicians work with dietitian nutritionists to provide care and consultation to patients. Both dietitian nutritionists and nutrition and dietetic technicians may also provide general nutrition education.

In universities, this course is also called Nutrition and Dietetics (Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta) or Human Nutrition (e.g Unversity of Ibadan).
