Liverpool are close to agreeing a deal for Bayern Munich Spanish midfielder, Thiago Alcantara.
The deal would cost the Anfield club £20m but add-ons could take the overall total to £27m.
It was thought Liverpool where looking to sell Gini Wijnaldun to Barcelona – rated highly by new coach and compatriot Ronald Koeman, before making further additions to their squad, but it appears they have decided to make the move regardless.
Thiago, a Barcelona academy graduate, helped Bayern to the treble last season before subsequently telling chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge that he wanted a new challenge.
The 29 year old followed Pep Guardiola to Bayern in 2013 when the Spaniard was employed by the German outfit.
He has so far won seven bundesliga titles, four Dfb-Pokal cups and a Champions League.
