Presidents of some West African countries including Nigeria, Niger, Senegal, Ivory coast and Ghana, after holding a day long summit in Mali, has failed to reach a deal to soothe the country’s escalating political crises.
The five leaders met their Malian
counterpart Boubacar Keita and leaders of a protest movement clamouring for his resignation, as a long running jihadists insurgency threatens to throw the country into chaos.
But the intervention failed to seal a deal according to Niger’s president Mahamadou Issoufou, who also disclosed that Western African bloc ECOWAS would hold a summit on Monday.
Speaking after the summit, one of the protest leaders Imam Mahmoud Dicko said, “Nothing has moved for the movement.”
