Minister Gives Update on NPower Stipend Payment
GoldenNewsNg reports that the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction has shared updates about the N-Power program, the reason for the delayed Stipend Payment, and plans to introduce a new auto mechanic training initiative for young Nigerians in January 2025.
Current Status of N-Power
In an interview on Arise TV, the Minister explained that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has frozen N-Power accounts due to ongoing investigations on the alleged theft and allegations of mismanagement of funds by the former ministers. These frozen accounts have delayed the disbursement of funds and other program activities.
The Minister assured the public that efforts are underway to resolve the issues and resume full operations of the program once investigations are concluded.
Reforming the N-Power Program
The Minister highlighted plans to revamp the NPower scheme by ensuring that trained beneficiaries are connected to market opportunities after completing their training.
A pilot phase of the new initiative is scheduled to begin in January 2025. This includes collaborations with Innoson Vehicles and another automobile company to train young Nigerians in automobile mechanics.
Expanding Opportunities
Beyond automobile mechanics, the government also aims to extend similar training opportunities to other sectors such as agriculture. These initiatives are designed to equip participants with skills that directly match market demands, increasing their chances of sustainable employment.
No Immediate Backlog Payments
Addressing concerns about backlog payments to NPower beneficiaries, the Minister clarified that no payments would be made until the EFCC investigation concludes. Unfortunately, this means there will be no payments before the Christmas period.

The new training programs, starting in 2025, offer a fresh direction for the N-Power initiative, focusing on skill acquisition and practical market integration. While challenges remain, the government’s plans signal a commitment to empowering young Nigerians through targeted vocational training.
