The Victims Support Fund (VSF) has donated an ambulance to the Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC), Igede, in Oju LGA in order to better the lives of rural pregnant women in Benue State.
GoldenNewsNg reports that the VSF Chairperson, Barr Toyosi Akerele, who presented the ambulance to the management of the PHC, said it was particularly meant for emergency situations and to ease the movement of pregnant women to hospitals during childbirth.
Akerele disclosed that the ambulance contained medical consumables such as anti-malaria drugs, pain killers, antihypertensive drugs, anti-diabetes drugs, a wheelchair, stretcher and a fire extinguisher.
She noted that recent communal clashes that engulfed communities in Oju LGA, with all PHCs destroyed, had left the people with only the PHC at Igede which now served all other communities in the LGA.
She added during an interaction with journalists that while the ambulance was being presented at the Igede PHC, the routine distribution of food items to about 1,800 IDPs for the month of November was ongoing in Okpute community within the LGA.
Responding, the Chairman of Oju LGA, Mrs Evelyn Okwe, represented by the council’s Director of Health, Emmanuel Ube, promised to support the management of the PHC in managing the equipment.
