Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, the governor of Niger State, has signed the over N243 billion appropriation bill for 2023 into law.

Goldennewsng reports that the bill’s estimate is N5 billion higher than the one he gave the state House of Assembly earlier for consideration.

It should be recalled that on November 1, 2022, Bello presented the state House of Assembly with a budget proposal totaling more than N238 billion.

The governor said during a brief ceremony at the Council Chamber of Government House in Minna that his administration is aware of the lack of resources but expressed hope that the budget will benefit all residents of the state.

He asserts, “I am optimistic that the 2023 budget would bring about a better Niger State if implemented up to 90%.” This is the last budget I will approve during my time in office; the new administration may make some changes or keep what has already been approved.

Over N152 billion in capital expenditures and over N91 billion in recurring expenses are anticipated.

Administration had more than N9 billion, Economics had more than N102 billion, Law and Justice had more than N1 billion, and the Social sector had more than N38 billion.

Bello praised the legislative arm for its ongoing support of the executive arm, particularly for its arduous efforts to ensure the budget’s passage.

He went on to say, “I also appreciate the leadership and members of the State Budget and Planning Commission, as well as all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) for contributing to ensuring the budget was passed.”
