Niger state government on Tuesday disclosed that, as part of its effort to ensure that no woman, newborn or child suffers due to preventable causes, it will recruit one thousand workers into the health sector.
While making this disclosure at the flag off ceremony for the implementation of second round November/December 2023 optimized maternal, newborn and child health week (OMNCHW) in Minna, the Deputy Governor, Comrade Yakubu Garba said, it is the wish of the state to reduce maternal and newborn death as soon as possible.
The Deputy Governor who was represented by the Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Hamidu Jantabo, said the health sector is undergoing serious restructuring.
According to him “the state government has concluded plans to employ one thousand workers and post them to various primary health care centers across the state.
“We are also harmonizing and packaging the best and suitable options of health insurance for our people. It is really disheartening to see that preventable diseases and complications continue to claim the lives of our lives ones”.
In his welcome remarks, Commissioner for Primary Health Care, Dr. Ibrahim Dangana said out of the one thousand health workers to be recruited by the state, government, 400 will go to the PHCs across the state for effective has reach the women and children with essential commodities
He said during the week, the following interventions have been provided by the government: iron folic for pregnant women, long lasting insecticide nets, vitamin A supplementation for children, routine immunization, deworming, nutritional status assessment, HIV screening and treatment and anti-malaria prophylaxis.
He further appealed to the people saying “we are pleading with our people to mobilize themselves so as to benefit from this program and we will ensure all eligible children are given the right vaccine by the right personnel.”
