Niger Senator donates 3 truck-load of fertilizers to Farmers in Niger
As part of efforts to boost agricultural activities in the State, the Senator representing Niger East Senatorial District, Senator Mohammed Sani Musa has distributed three truckload of fertilizers worth millions of Naira to farmers in his constituency.
The farmers are drawn the nine local government areas under Niger East, which include Shiroro, Munya, Paikoro, Rafi, Suleja, Gurara, Chanchaga, Bosso and Tafa local governments.
The gesture according to Senator Mohammed Sani Musa is to boost agricultural activities, not just in those local government areas but Niger State as a whole.
Senator Musa during the presentation of the items to the farmers at his zonal office in Minna on Monday, said Niger East alone has the capacity to feed the whole of Nigeria as it is blessed with vast arable land.
According to him “if given the necessary support, the farmers in Niger East can contribute immensely to boosting the economic capacity of the country”.
Senator Sani Musa who was represented at the event by Alhaji Baba Sule Bissala, member, Senator Sani Musa Senatorial Advisory Committee however lamented the negative impact of insecurity on agricultural activities in the zone, reiterating the need for the federal government to tackle the challenge once and for all.
“The Federal government must find a lasting solution to the banditry problem bedeviling Niger East, so as to maximize the agricultural potential of the area. There is no doubt that insecurity is a major clog in the wheel of farmers in the area,” he said.
Before distribution of the items, all the local government liaison officers, officials of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the local government level and all coordinators of Senator Sani Musa’s local government offices were addressed by Alhaji Zubairu Ismail Zannah, an APC bigwig, on how the exercise was to be conducted.
Zannah warned against diversion of the items, stressing the need to ensure that they reach the targeted farmers.
A total of 1800 bags of fertilizers were distributed, and they were not part of the constituency project of Senator Sani Musa, but his personal effort at improving on the lives of the people.
Beneficiaries of the gesture commended him for his continuous effort towards adding value to his constituents, pointing out that it is the first time farmers in Niger East have felt the impact of representation.
They prayed Almighty Allah to continue to guide Senator Sani Musa in his quest to bring dividends of democracy to the people.
