The Federal Government has disclosed that it lost a grant of $1.6m for the conduct of a survey which was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

It also said that no fewer than 17.3 million insecticide nets were distributed across six states in 2020.

These were disclosed in a funding request made by the Federal Ministry of Health to the Global Fund, an international partnership which seeks to end AIDs, tuberculosis and malaria.

The government explained that the negative impact of the coronavirus pandemic led to the interruption of anti-malaria services at health facilities due to disruptions in national supply chain management and restriction of movement.

“There were many critical activities whose implementation was found not to be guaranteed following the emergence of the COVID-19, hence the postponement of MIS 2020 to 2021. However, this was not without adverse consequences as the country lost the initial commitment of the Global Fund to support the survey with the sum of $1,600,000.

17.3 million nets distributed in 2020

Meanwhile, the analysis of a table in the request form revealed that the Federal Government claimed it distributed no fewer than 17,398,201 long lasting insecticide nets in 2020 across six states of the Federation.

It highlighted the recipients as follows, Adamawa, 2,828,987; Benue, 3,575,770; Zamfara, 3,100,00;  Kwara, 2,191,741; Osun, 3,251,703; Plateau, 2,450,000.
