  1. NPower: Nigerian Govt Engages Monitors In Rivers, Distributes Letters, Devices

The Federal Government has distributed engagement letters and devices to persons it recently trained to monitor its social investment schemes including the N-Power Programme in Rivers State.

Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq, said the recipients were among the 5000 monitors from 36 states trained by her ministry in February.

Ahead of the 2023 Presidential election, the leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele has proclaimed that the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu will never be President of Nigeria.

3. Popular singer and song writer, Lanre Fasasi, popularly known as Sound Sultan died yesterday after battling cancer of the throat. His death was confirmed in a statement issued by a family member, Dr Kayode Fasasi.

4. Billionaire Richard Branson Takes Off For Space, Fulfills Childhood’s Dream

British billionaire, Richard Branson has fulfilled his childhood dream and lifetime’s ambition after he flew to the edge of space on Sunday.

Branson, who founded the Virgin Group that today has interests in everything from commercial aviation to fitness centers, is known for his appetite for adventure and has set world records in hot air ballooning and boating.

“As a child, I wanted to go to space,” the 70-year-old wrote a few days ahead of his trip which he hopes will lift the nascent space tourism industry off the ground.

The billionaire’s massive carrier plane made a horizontal take-off from Spaceport, New Mexico at around 8:40 am Mountain Time (1440 GMT) and will ascend for around an hour to an altitude of 50,000 feet (15 kilometers).

The Kaduna State Government, led by Governor Malam Nasir El-Rufai has declared Monday, July 12 as a public holiday to honour a former Deputy Governor of the state, Arch Barnabas Bantex, who died on Sunday. 7. APC Appoints Caretaker Committee To Oversee Zamfara

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has constituted a three-member committee to run the affairs of the party in Zamfara State.

National Secretary, APC Caretaker and Extra-ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), Senator John Akpanudoedehe, said this in a statement on Sunday in Abuja.

He said while Senator Hassan Gusau will serve as chairman of the committee, Muntari Anka will serve as its Deputy Chairman and Prof. Abdullahi Shinkafi as secretary.

8. PDP: Police Harass Zamfara Deputy Governor For Not Joining Matawalle To APC

Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have been accused of harassing Mahdi Aliyu Gusau, the deputy governor of Zamfara State.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in a statement made available to newsmen on Sunday by its publicity secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, alleged that the Zamfara second in command was harassed by some security men over his refusal to decamped to the All Progressive Congress, APC, alongside the state governor, Bello Matawalle.

9. Biafra: Ohanaeze Pledges Support For Nnamdi Kanu, Raises Legal Team

The apex Igbo organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has pledged its support for the arrested leader of the Indigenous Peoples Of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

The group made this known in a communique issued after the meeting of its National Executive Committee (NEC) held on Saturday in Enugu and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Chiedozie Alex Ogbonnia.

Ohanaeze also raised a legal team led by the National Legal Adviser of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide and eminent Igbo leaders to monitor Kanu’s trial.

The group, however, asked the Federal Government to try Kanu within the ambit of the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and in line with global best practices.

10. Former Kaduna State Deputy Governor Is Dead

Former Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, Barnabas Yusuf Bala Bantex, is dead.

Naija News reports that this was made known in a statement on Sunday by Governor Nasir El-Rufai.

Bala, a top chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), served as deputy to El-Rufai in his first term between 2015-2019.
