Twitter Founder, Dorsey, Liable For EndSARS Losses, Says FG

The Federal Government says Twitter and its founder, Jack Dorsey are indirectly liable for the losses the country suffered during the EndSARS protest.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, stated this on Tuesday when he featured on “Politics Nationwide,’’ a Radio Nigeria call-in programme.

Niger community residents raise N5m, motorcycles, free leader’s wives

The two wives of the District Head of Zungeru, Wushishi Local Government Area of Niger State, who were abducted by gunmen suspected to be bandits, have regained their freedom after the payment of N5m ransom.

Gunmen numbering about 20 had a week ago invaded the sleepy town around 1.30am, headed straight for the residence of the community leader , Mallam Mustapha Madaki, located in the heart of the town, and took him and his two wives away.

During the operation that lasted about 30 minutes, the Madakin Zungeru was said to have hid inside the room of one of his wives, Habiba, from where he was eventually captured and led away with the two women.

The gunmen were said to have invaded Zungeru in a convoy of 10 motorcycles, which they parked about 500 metres away from the town, and went to the house of their targets unchallenged.

A source in the local government area told our correspondent that after several days of negotiations, the community was able to raise N5m out of the N10m demanded by the abductors.

“The bandits initially demanded that we pay them N10m and buy them 100 android phones and five Bajaj motorcycles. But we were not able to raise that amount,” the source stated.

 

Reps Screen Chief Of Army Staff

The House Of Representatives Joint Committees on Army and Defence has screened President Muhammadu Buhari’s nominee for the position of Chief of Army Staff, Major General Farouk Yahaya.

The screening took place on Tuesday behind closed doors in the National Assembly chambers in Abuja.

Speaking earlier, Major General Farouk Yahaya in his introductory remarks, stated that contrary to public perception, there has been synergy among security agencies to tackle insurgency, especially since the emergence of the new service chiefs.

He also asked Nigerians to support the military in tackling the insecurity problem.

World Bank Approves $3bn For Vaccines In Africa

The World Bank has approved three billion dollars to cover vaccination in 32 countries around the world, which includes 15 nations in Africa.

In a statement made at the G7 leaders’ summit in the United Kingdom, the World Bank’s President, David Malpass, said the multilateral finance institution is partnering with the African Union to deploy vaccines for 400 million Africans.

Malpass mentioned that the World Bank Group has committed over 125 billion dollars since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, to combat the economic, health as well as social impacts of the pandemic, which is the fastest and largest crisis response in its history.

Insecurity: Buhari Calls For Collaboration Among West African Countries

President Muhammadu Buhari has called for collaboration among countries in the West African sub-region and those in the Sahel to fight the security challenges confronting them.

The President stated this on Tuesday at State House, Abuja, while receiving the new Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS), Mr. Mahamat Saleh Annadif.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo proudly drove a ‘Made-In-Nigeria’ electric car at an event on Tuesday.

The event was the opening ceremony of the exhibition of Made-In-Nigeria products and cultural display held at Eagle Square, Abuja.

The Nigerian-made electric car is called Kona.

The vice-president drove in the car in the company of Nigeria Automotive Development Council (NADC) Boss, Jelani Aliyu, and the Minister for Industry Trade and Investment, Niyi Adebayo
