A certain Nigerian man has taken to Facebook to express his sadness over the demise of is dog. The practice of mourning dogs and other pets is alien to Africans but widely practiced in the western world where animal rights are prevalent.
In the Facebook group designed for “dogs owners in Naija”, the young man lamented that his beloved dog which he named Murphy a Boerboel mix died of Pravo virus on the 4th of April 2019. According to him, the dogs death broke is heart so much.
Other members of the group joined to sympathize with the dog owner and went on to share memories of their pets that ave died. A stranger in Africa who has not joined that kind of group before will be shocked beyond measures because the majority of Nigerians think that such emotions for animals can be found only among people in the western world.
Traditionally, some tribes have deep concern for animals especially pets that can be domesticated. They are given names and their death sometimes causes grieve and anguish for their owners.
