1. The Federal Government and the Peoples Democratic Party on Thursday exchanged words over a report by the National Bureau of Statistics in which it was stated that Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product grew by 3.4 per cent in 2021-the highest in seven years. The GDP report, released by the National Bureau of Statistics on Thursday, also showed that the economy weakened further in the fourth quarter of 2021, after recording a decline in the third quarter of last year.

2. The Police Service Commission has announced the suspension of two police officers working under the suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, in the Intelligence Response Team of the Force Investigation and Intelligence Department of the Nigeria Police Force. The commission has also directed the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, to ensure the arrest of an Assistant Superintendent of Police, John Umoru, who is currently at large.

3. The United States Consulate Mission, Lagos office, Nigeria, on Thursday, donated e-library resources to Chrisland University, Abeokuta, Ogun State. The consulate said the donation was part of its core mandate in promoting educational opportunities for Nigerian students and scholars.

4. The Petroleum Tanker Drivers branch of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas workers and the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners on Thursday suspended their plans to embark on industrial action. Both groups had last week threatened to embark on strike over the alleged diversion of the N621bn road fund provided by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited and the failure of government to increase freight rate for transporting petrol.

5. A former governor of Osun State and current Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, on Thursday, said his successor, Adegboyega Oyetola, waged a war against him after becoming the governor. Aregbesola spoke in Ikire while addressing a rally held to garner support for his anointed candidate in Saturday’s governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress, Moshood Adeoti.

6. Dangote Sugar Refinery Plc and Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc have berated BUA Foods Plc for accusing them of suspending the sale of sugar. BUA Foods had in an advertorial published on Monday said Flour Mills suspended sugar sales because the 2022 raw sugar allocation had been declined by the government.

7. Seven political parties in Osun State on Thursday signed a peace pact with the police in the state and promised to ensure that peace reigns during the period leading to the governorship election, just as the police declared zero tolerance for violence. At a meeting held with the leadership of Osun Police Command in Osogbo, the parties whose representatives signed the pact include All Progressives Congress, represented by its Secretary, Kamoru Alao, and the Peoples Democratic Party, also represented by its secretary, Bola Ajao.

8. Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike, has described as preposterous reports that he and other Peoples Democratic Party governors traveled to Europe to decide the 2023 presidential and vice candidates of the party. The governor, accused those behind what he was a rumour of deliberating sowing the seeds of discord in a bid to ruin the chances of the PDP in the 2023 general elections.

9. Nollywood actress, Tonto Dikeh, on Thursday celebrated her son, Andre, as he turned six years old. Her ex-husband, Olakunle Churchill, whom she welcomed her son with, also took to his Instagram page to hail the celebrant.

10. NIGERIA international Odion Ighalo says he has no regrets playing for Manchester United, adding that he will be a fan of the club “till death.” The 32-year-old joined the Red Devils in a deadline day move in January 2020, accepting a pay cut from Shanghai Shenhua.
