President Bola Tinubu has signed the Students Loan Bill into law.
The President’s media team, led by Mr. Dele Alake, a member of the Presidential Strategic Team, announced this to reporters in Abuja. According to Alake, who was accompanied by other members of the media team, including Tunde Rahman and Abdulaziz Abdulaziz, as well as the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, David Adejoh, the new law fulfills one of President Tinubu’s electoral promises.
During the announcement, Alake clarified that the new law aims to assist financially needy students in obtaining education in the country. When asked about concerns regarding increased school fees, Alake stated that the law’s purpose is unrelated to such matters. He highlighted that the law aligns with practices in other developed countries, allowing indigent students to access federal government loans for their education.
Further details about the implementation of the Student Loans Bill will be provided shortly. These details will outline the procedures and mechanisms to enable deserving students to benefit from government loans, supporting their educational and career goals.
