#EndSars has been trending on all of social media from Facebook, Instagram and especially Twitter following multiple news of The Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) intimidation, brutality and even murder on young Nigerian youths.

The latest incidence being the death of a young man in Ughelli who was chased by SARS and killed and his vehicle was taken over by SARS.

Celebrities and politicians home and abroad have had a say in the matter urging the Presidency to put and end to the ‘rogue’ sect of the police or invent means to have the rouge officers expunged.

Former vice President and presidential hopeful for 2023 Atiku Abubakar suggested that rouge elements be fished out from the squad

“The Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) unit of the @PoliceNG was set up to confront violent crimes such as armed robbery, kidnapping and other related crimes. However, the unit has today morphed into an oppressor of the Nigerian masses who strive every day for a better life.

Reports of intimidation, harassment and outright extortion by officers of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) have continued unabated.

It is expedient that the activities of SARS are reviewed to ensure that the rogue elements are excised from the unit and sanity returned to its operations.” He said.

The governor of Lagos State has urged residents in Lagos that something would be done about it speedily.

As at the moment of making this report, the presidency is yet to make a comment on the issue.
