No Allowance, No Voting – Kano and Lagos INEC Adhoc Officials Protest
Report has it that Many voters have been left stranded in Kano State after some adhoc staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) insisted on getting their allowances before commencing work.
The protesting INEC adhoc staff insisted they won’t start accrediting the voters until their allowances were paid.
The officials at Dorayi Karama polling unit in Gwale Local Government of the state told BBC Hausa that they will not commence work until their training allowances are paid.
The development left many voters who had arrived the polling units stranded.
In a similar development, one of the supervisors in the Ifako-Ijaiye Constituency in Lagos state has been accused of eloping with the allowance of INEC adhoc staff members.
The development has left hundreds of voters stranded at various polling units in Ward A in Ifako-Ijaiye Constituency in Lagos state as the staff protest non-payment of theur N3,500 training allowances.
The Electoral officers who were gathered at Progress School formerly State High School also alleged poor logistics and unavailability of vehicles to convey them and the sensitive electoral materials to their polling units.
They lamented that as at 11.20 am, they were still waiting for a bus to convey them to their polling units. According to them, the vehicles are not enough and the distance is not trekkable.
