In a recent statement, Minister Betta Edu from the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation shared her plans to make significant changes to the existing N-Power program. This program’s main goal is to help people in need and address the humanitarian crisis in Nigeria.
According to Minister Edu, these changes will not only solve the problem of delayed stipend payments to program participants but also include more people in the program.
During a press release on Sunday, as reported by her Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Rasheed Zubair, Minister Edu acknowledged the delays in stipend payments that program participants have been facing. She assured everyone that steps are being taken to fix these issues promptly.
She explained, “We are re-evaluating the process to make sure stipend payments happen on time, and we’re planning to expand the program to assist more people, giving it a fresh start with renewed hope and effectiveness.”
Additionally, Minister Edu shared her ambitious long-term plan to eliminate poverty across the country by setting up humanitarian hubs in all 774 local government areas in Nigeria. These hubs would be places where locally made products can be sold at affordable prices, promoting self-sufficiency and economic growth.
Furthermore, the ministry is committed to making the distribution of relief materials more transparent and efficient. They plan to use digital tracking systems to accurately monitor the delivery of aid. This system will record important information like when and where aid is delivered and who receives it. Teams will also be sent to different local government areas to collect feedback and closely supervise the distribution process, with the help of independent observers, to ensure that relief materials reach those who truly need them.
Under Minister Edu’s leadership, the ministry is determined to combat poverty by creating jobs, providing cash transfers to those in need, and collaborating with various departments, such as the Nutrition Department. They will also support the growth of small and medium-sized businesses by offering stimulus packages to boost their operations.
Minister Edu reassured the public of her commitment to addressing the humanitarian crisis in Nigeria through swift and coordinated actions. She encouraged Nigerians to have faith in the process and highlighted President Bola Tinubu’s comprehensive economic plans to meet both the immediate and future needs of the citizens.
“We ask the public to trust these processes as we work tirelessly to achieve these goals,” she added.
Through these initiatives, Minister Edu promises that the empowerment programs within the National Investment Programme will be refined to effectively assist more people, demonstrating a renewed dedication to lifting Nigerians out of poverty and hardship.
