The Nigerian Union of Journalists has condemned the outburst of former Special Assistant to president Olusegun Obasanjo, Femi Fani-Kayode, against a Daily Trust Newspaper Correspondent, Eyo Charles.
The journalist had asked the lawyer a question which he felt was offensive and in his reaction, threatened him for daring to ask such a question.
According to the NUJ, by denigrating the journalist, Fani-Kayode has exposed himself as an intolerant person who will not want his activities scrutinized by the media.
The NUJ president, Chris Isiguzo, reacting to Fani-Kayode outbursts said, “His reaction was totally unacceptable, dishonorable and reprehensible and we demand a retraction of his untoward, irritating and awkward utterances which negate simple decorum and civility.”
” We are more shocked that the same Kayode who had in recent times used his social media handles to call leaders to account is attacking a journalist for a simple demand for him to unmask those behind his nationwide your.”
It will be recalled that on August 20, 2020 a journalist Eyo Charles had asked Fani-Kayode who was bankrolling his recent trips around Nigeria, to which the ex minister responded with a raised voice, insults and eventually a threat to inflict bodily harm on the reporter.
