Members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) have been warned.
Goldennewsng reports that Serving members of the corps were warned by the NYSC not to engage in any kind of electoral malpractice during the upcoming general elections.
During a working visit to the temporary Orientation Camp in Amada, Akko Local Government Area, Mrs. Christy Uba, Acting Director-General of the NYSC, issued the warning and stated that any corps member found lacking would face legal action.
She stated that the NYSC scheme and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had collaborated to conduct elections in the country over the years.
Uba went on to say that, in accordance with the 2022 Electoral Act, any corps member who engaged in any kind of electoral offense would be subject to the law’s wrath.
While urging corps members to remain neutral throughout the election, the acting director general emphasized that participation is not required.
She stated, “You are encouraged to remain neutral and apolitical if you must participate in the electoral process.” Avoid getting involved in politics; As members of the corps, you are obligated to serve your nation; You must exercise caution.
You will be treated like any other Nigerian if you break the law. Corps members are not protected; when you carry a ballot for any individual; You will immediately be imprisoned.
In addition, Uba stated that the NYSC and INEC officials would provide the necessary training to all corps members who expressed interest in participating in elections.
As a result, she advised everyone participating in the 2023 elections to attend the training to acquire the necessary knowledge for a successful exercise.
According to the acting director general, “the welfare of all corps members across the country is always given high priority,” he also refuted claims that some camps’ clinics lacked medical supplies.
“Their taking care of, wellbeing, and prosperity isn’t debatable; I can assure you that drugs are always available because we collaborate with the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS),” she added.
