NYSC Resumes N44,000 Arrears Payment After Two-Month Pause

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has resumed the payment of arrears to corps members, marking the first disbursement since June 3, 2025, after a two-month suspension.

The payment, which amounts to ₦44,000 in arrears, is linked to the new ₦77,000 monthly allowance recently approved by the Federal Government.

Back in April, the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, assured corps members that those who had already completed their service year would also benefit from the revised allowance structure.

“Once funds are released to us to offset the arrears, we will pay them. Even our recently graduated corps members will benefit. We have their bank details,” Nafiu stated during the Batch A 2025 Pre-Mobilisation Workshop in Abuja.

He further stressed the government’s commitment:

“Nigerians should not fret about that because the government is both responsible and responsive to their needs.”

The latest disbursement covers arrears accrued between July 2024 and March 2025, following months of frustration among corps members over the delayed implementation.

A former corps member confirmed the development, saying:

“After waiting for two months, I didn’t expect to see another payment alert. But honestly, it’s not just about the money; it’s about feeling like our efforts actually count.”

Meanwhile, several corps members have taken to social media to share evidence of payment, with some banks, including Access Bank, already processing the arrears. Payment alerts reportedly carry the tag ‘Feb 2025’, indicating the batch covered in this round of disbursement.

The increase to ₦77,000 is part of government efforts to cushion the economic hardships faced by Nigerian youths, particularly those serving under the NYSC scheme.
