Samuel Ortom, governor of Benue State, has criticized the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) destruction of campaign billboards in parts of the Gboko Local Government Area.
Goldennewsng reports that several billboards were taken down in an attack on PDP campaign materials by thugs who are thought to have been sponsored by rival parties.
In response, the Governor said in a statement released on Saturday by his media aide, Terver Akase, that the act could lead to crises in the area that could have been avoided.
He urged supporters of the party to exercise caution.
Regardless of the circumstances, Ortom emphasized that no individual or organization has the authority to remove political opponents’ campaign materials.

He stated that the country’s electoral system has been strengthened by the introduction of electronic voting, and anyone who is confident in their chances at the polls should canvass for votes rather than attack other candidates.
In order to deter others, Governor Ortom urged security personnel to investigate the events in Gboko and bring those responsible to justice.
