Nigerian fast-rising musician and internet sensation, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, will be faced with not less than six charges in court over his inciting comments against the police and his unruly behavior.
The Police Force’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi made this known via a series of tweets on Saturday, April 1, less than 24 hours after Portable was arrested in Ogun state.
Portable’s ordeal with the police started earlier this week when the controversial artist made an Instagram Live video in which he claimed that police had attacked his bar in Sango Ota at the request of an online scammer.
The musician was invited to the Ogun State Police Command’s headquarters after the video, which has since gone viral and generated some internet controversy. Portable, however, chose not to appear.
The musician was apprehended by the police on Friday and is anticipated to spend the weekend in custody amidst contradictory reports that Portable wasn’t arrested but went to the police as requested.
In a series of tweets on Saturday, the police PRO explained why it took so long for the force to intervene in the case of MC Oluomo, who had intimidated some voters during the 2023 elections but had arrested Portable so swiftly.
The police PRO said, “I am sure u are very awake as I have addressed MCs case, but portable has more than 6 count charges to attend to, apart from resisting arrest and injuring a policeman.
“He will be charged to court for beating up a guy in Otta, who filed a petition to CP Ogun.
“There are many pending cases of assaults on people and attacks, and he will be investigated because people have complained against him.
“So, there is no sentiment in law, let him appear in court, and allow the judge to listen to the charges against him. He has no constitutional immunity anyway. Ire o.”
