After the meeting, Governor Mbah informed reporters that he had requested President Tinubu to consider releasing Kanu as part of a wider national healing process, which the President had already initiated.

The governor expressed optimism that the President would view the request positively. Furthermore, Governor Mbah sought the federal government’s support in utilizing Enugu State’s rich mineral resources for the benefit of its residents. Kanu has been held in custody by the Department of State Services (DSS) since his arrest.

In a related development, Governor Mbah declared that various establishments, including schools and markets, must open on Mondays, or face potential closure. This directive was issued by the Mbah-led government of Enugu State as part of the effort to end the sit-at-home order in the state.
