Over the years, we’ve had the pleasure of witnessing many phenomenal moments during the cup. We are going to list some of the all-time cricket favorites. There were many others beyond these 5 that didn’t make the cut, but the ones we’re going to reveal certainly belong among cricket’s finest:

1. Wasim Akram’s retribution against England in the 1992 final

In the 1992 World Cup, Pakistan faced numerous obstacles on their path to the finals. Although they made it to the co-finalists stage against England, they were on the brink of defeat until rain intervened and saved them. Additionally, their advancement to the last four was dependent on Australia defeating West Indies.

During the semi-finals, Pakistan pulled off an unexpected victory over New Zealand by launching a surprise attack, led by Inzamam-ul-Haq, who led his team to victory in an unexpected run chase at Auckland’s Eden Park. In the final match against England, Wasim Akram played a pivotal role, scoring a quick 33 runs as Pakistan set a target of 249-6. Ultimately, Pakistan emerged victorious by 22 runs, with captain Imran Khan proudly lifting the trophy and celebrating their triumph.

2. Sachin Tendulkar retired with the valor of a king as he was carried around Mumbai

The retirement of cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar was a fitting end for a master of his craft. In his sixth and final tournament, Sachin achieved the ultimate glory by helping India chase down Sri Lanka’s total of 274-6 to win the trophy.

While he only contributed 18 runs with the bat on that day, Sachin was the center of the celebrations as he bid farewell to his illustrious career. After the victory, Sachin Tendulkar, the veteran batsman, was lifted up and carried around Mumbai’s stadium by his teammates, who cheered him on in his hometown.

3. South Africa hindered by rain in 2003

South Africa just doesn’t seem to have a good track record with mother nature at cricket world cups. As early as 1992, their fortunes were hindered by bad weather, which worked against them and dashed their hopes of reaching the finals.

In the 2003 tournament, South Africa was once again plagued by an unfortunate spell of rain as they attempted to chase a score of 269.

4. Kevin O’ Brien shocked England in 2011

Kevin O’Brien’s impressive display of hitting big shots against England in 2011 raised hopes that Ireland would be able to achieve some much-deserved victories more easily. In fact, during that match, Ireland came close to defeating the highly-regarded English team.

Kevin O’Brien’s outstanding display of power-hitting left both the fans and the opposing team in complete shock. He scored an impressive 113 runs off just 63 deliveries, hitting a total of six sixes and 13 fours, showcasing his incredible skill and ruthlessness on the field. England was left speechless in the face of his remarkable performance.

5. Australia defied the odds to beat South Africa in 1999

During the 1999 World Cup, Australia and South Africa competed in a tense semi-final match at Edgbaston. The match ended with both teams being bowled out at a score of 213.

Shane Warne’s brilliant performance stalled South Africa’s chase, but Lance Klusener swung the game back in favor of the Proteas in the closing stages. Needing just nine runs from the final over and with only Allan Donald for company, Klusener managed to hit the first two deliveries sent by Damien Fleming to the boundary. With just one run needed from the remaining deliveries, South Africa failed to cross the finish line, resulting in a heartbreaking defeat.

Conclusion

Cricket is a massive sport with numerous noteworthy moments throughout its history. We hope you enjoyed this brief introduction to the fascinating world of cricket.
