Putin orders Russian forces to Ukraine rebel regions
It was reported that Vladimir Putin ordered Russian troops to “maintain peace” in two breakaway regions in eastern Ukraine, hours after the Russian president recognised Donetsk and Luhansk as independent entities.
In two official decrees, Putin on Monday instructed the country’s defence ministry to assume “the function of maintaining peace” in the eastern regions.
Meanwhile, The West has repeatedly warned Russia not to recognise the separatist regions in Donetsk and Luhansk – a move that effectively buries a fragile peace process in the region.
Putin’s announcement paved the way for Russia to openly send troops and weapons to the long-running conflict pitting Ukrainian forces against Moscow-backed rebels.
Ukraine crisis: International condemnation as Putin sends troops into eastern Ukraine
The US and the UK have led the condemnation of Russia after Vladimir Putin has declared he recognises the independence of two separatist-held regions in eastern Ukraine – and was sending in troops.
At an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council, chaired by Russia, US ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield said “the consequences of Russia’s actions will be dire – across Ukraine, Europe and the globe”.
She said Russian recognition of the separatist regions was “clearly the basis for Russia’s attempt to create a pretext for a further invasion of Ukraine”. -Sky

Russia’s Ukraine Moves: EU Warns Of Economic Uncertainty
Russia’s recognition of breakaway regions of Ukraine will “strongly increase” economic uncertainty for the EU, the bloc’s economy commissioner Paolo Gentiloni said on Tuesday.
“Uncertainty remains around us. And the violation of international law through Russian recognition of two separatist territories in Ukraine will strongly increase this uncertainty,” Gentiloni told a Brussels conference.
Gentiloni was speaking as EU ambassadors met to agree on sanctions against Russia for its recognition a day before of two separatist regions in Ukraine that have been militarily supported by Moscow for the past eight years.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered troops into those separatist regions, breaking international agreements he had signed on to. He portrayed the incursion as a “peacekeeping” mission.
The European Union was expected to unveil limited and targeted economic punishment, both to keep its sanctions powder dry should Russia push further into Ukraine and because of the pain it would feel too from sectoral sanctions
Erdogan Breaks Silence on Recognition Of Ukraine Rebel Republics
Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday slammed Russia’s recognition of Ukraine’s breakaway regions as “unacceptable” in comments carried by the official Anadolu news agency.
“We consider the decision unacceptable,” said Erdogan, who is currently in Senegal.
“We invite the parties concerned to act with common sense and comply with the international law.”
Erdogan, who has friendly ties with both Russia and Ukraine, has sought to host the two countries’ leaders for a three-way summit in Turkey to ease tensions.
He visited Kyiv earlier this month for talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky whom he said looked “favorably” to a Turkey-hosted summit.
And he was expecting a response from Russian President Vladimir Putin
