Sterling Bank has announced the first set of beneficiaries under its ₦2bn Beyond Education Scholarship Fund, unveiling 99 students at the Sterling Leadership Series (SLS) held at the Alliance Française de Lagos / Mike Adenuga Centre.

The scholarship, launched earlier in 2025, is part of Sterling’s HEART strategy, covering Health, Education, Agriculture, Renewable Energy, and Transportation and is designed to provide full tuition funding for deserving Nigerian students.

Speaking at the event, Sterling Bank’s Chief Operating Officer, Temitayo Adegoke, described the initiative as a major investment in the country’s future.

“At Sterling, we see education as the most powerful tool for transformation. We have invested, and will continue to invest, in programmes that extend access to quality education and create pathways for real-world opportunities,” Adegoke said.

The unveiling ceremony featured thought leaders from education, policy, and entrepreneurship, including uLesson and Miva University founder, Sim Shagaya; Deputy Director at the Nigerian Universities Commission, Dr. Ayoteju Ogun; and Sterling Bank’s Chief Entrepreneur, David Adebayo. Discussions at the forum emphasised the need for African nations to move beyond traditional education models and embrace creativity, adaptability, and lifelong learning.

Sterling Bank’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Abubakar Suleiman, reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to youth development.

“The Sterling Leadership Series was designed to set a standard. Tonight, that standard is clear. Our young people have the talent, the curiosity, and the courage. What they need are the right opportunities, and we are creating the platforms, the tools, and the pathways to unlock Nigeria’s greatest dividend: its people,” he said.

The 99 scholars celebrated at the event are the first beneficiaries of what Sterling described as one of the boldest private-sector commitments to higher education in Nigeria.

According to the bank, the ₦2bn scholarship fund is already sparking nationwide conversations on education access and opportunity.

The Sterling Leadership Series, a quarterly interactive forum, is part of the bank’s effort to connect leaders across industries and drive transformative ideas with measurable impact.
