Tension mounts as Ganduje prepares to resign as APC national chairman

 

GoldenNewsNg reports that the Tension has gripped the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as reports emerge that the party’s National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, is preparing to resign from his position.

According to reports, the development is said to be in response to intense internal pressure from key stakeholders within the party.

Though there has been no official confirmation from the APC or Dr. Ganduje himself, multiple insider sources suggest that the former Kano State governor is expected to formally step down on Friday. One source close to the party’s national secretariat noted that “barring any last-minute change of decision,” Ganduje will tender his resignation and temporarily hand over leadership to one of the party’s national vice chairmen in an acting capacity. This arrangement is expected to last until the party’s national convention scheduled for December.

The decision appears to be part of a broader plan by the APC leadership to ease internal tensions, particularly agitation from the North Central zone, which has consistently demanded that the chairmanship seat be returned to the region. Ganduje’s appointment in August 2023, following the resignation of Senator Abdullahi Adamu, was met with discontent from many in the North Central who viewed the move as a political imbalance.

His possible exit has reignited political chatter across the country and especially on social media, where supporters and critics alike are weighing in. Members of the Kwankwasiyya movement, a political bloc in opposition to Ganduje in Kano State, have taken to various platforms to celebrate the news.

Engr. Bashir Bukar Muhammad, a strong supporter of Vice President Kashim Shettima and Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, commented on social media saying, “The prayer is beginning to work.” Meanwhile, Hassan Cikinza Rano, former Senior Special Assistant to Ganduje on Agriculture, posted a picture with the caption: “It is certain, politics is harder than being in the army.”

In a separate Facebook post, Hon. Abbah Bari hinted at political undercurrents linked to Ganduje’s exit, stating: “A certain political calculation only by Ganduje and Asiwaju — honestly, what has been planned for Kano politics, if someone merely told you about it, you wouldn’t believe it. Just wait and watch.”

As speculations continue, political observers are watching closely to see how this move might reshape the internal power structure within the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
