On Sunday, a tragic incident unfolded along Lagos State’s Lekki expressway, resulting in the loss of three lives when a commercial bus with the license plate MUS 753 YD caught fire.

This revelation came from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), as disclosed in a statement posted on its Facebook page on the same day.

The statement further conveyed that the deceased individuals’ remains have been relocated to the closest morgue for necessary procedures.

The statement read, “The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA deployed its Response Team at Lekki to a scene of a car accident today, Sunday, 12th November 2023, at Sandfill Bus-stop, inward Ozumba Mbadiwe, Victoria Island.

“Consequent upon the arrival of the Response Team at the scene, it was discovered that a commercial bus with registration number, MUS 753 YD, was engulfed in fire. Further investigation revealed that the bus went into flames as a result of reckless driving.

“Unfortunately, the three passengers trapped in the bus were burnt to death. The commodities were bagged and handed over to SEHMU for immediate transit to the morgue. The bus was recovered off the road and moved to Maroko Police Station.”

The LASEMA boss, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, while lamenting reckless driving on Lagos roads, urged drivers to exercise caution and shun drinking while driving.

The Permanent Secretary, LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, while commiserating with the families of the deceased, calls on motorists to drive with caution and desist from speeding.

“He further laments that commuter drivers are always in the habit of driving recklessly and taking alcohol while driving. Therefore, he advises all to drive with care and ensure their vehicles are in good condition before embarking on any journey to avoid the loss of lives and properties associated with this menace,” the statement concluded.
