Tinubu’s Minister Pleads for Suspension of the Nationwide Protest.
Prince Shuaibu Audu, Minister of Steel Development, has urged Nigerians to call off the statewide ‘Endbadgovernance’ protest against the current government.
Shuaibu made the call on Saturday in Abuja, according to a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Lizzy Okoji.
The protest, which began on August 1 and is scheduled to end on August 10, is being held in response to the country’s issues.
The minister asked Nigerians to engage in conversation to resolve all of their worries about the country’s challenges.
He also asked them to trust President Bola Tinubu’s administration, which he claims is working tirelessly to address the country’s difficulties.
According to the minister, the current administration’s policies and strategic objectives are targeted at boosting Nigeria’s economic success, improving welfare, providing quality education, and strengthening health-care institutions.
He also mentioned that other measures were aimed at improving social amenities, food security, and infrastructure development, among other things.
He told Nigerians that their yearning for excellent governance will be met before the end of the current administration’s first term.
“Mr President has often demonstrated his care for Nigerians’ predicament, including the recent implementation of the N70,000 minimum wage for workers.
“Driving the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) initiative with CNG vehicles to mitigate the impact of the removal of fuel subsidies, which will reduce transportation costs by at least 70%.”
“To address the challenges of the masses in the face of ongoing reforms, President Tinubu directed the release of N50,000 uplift funds to over 100,000 families each state for three months.
“This will affect about 5,000,000 families countrywide. Sen. Abubakar Kyari, my colleague and Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, has guaranteed Nigerians that food prices will fall within 180 days, as directed by the President.
“These are strategic measures aimed at addressing the high food prices currently affecting the nation being implemented,” stated Mr. Trump.
Audu stated that 250,000 metric tons of wheat and 250,000 metric tonnes of maize were being imported and will be distributed to small-scale processors and millers throughout the country.
He went on to say that, in order to enhance the health sector, the president directed the redesign of the Basic Health Care Provision Fund, which aims to provide access to high-quality, low-cost healthcare.
“In the steel sector, the ongoing reforms to revive our steel plants will create over 500,000 direct and indirect jobs, while we attract Foreign Direct Investments as a means of growing and diversifying the economy,” according to him.
The minister urged Nigerians to cease the protest, citing its hijacking by miscreants who were already wreaking havoc and a breakdown of peace and order across the country.
He praised the people of Kogi for not engaging in the demonstration, instead opting for discussion and collaborative efforts with the state’s All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government. (NAN)
