GoldenNewsNg reports that the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu, has announced the dissolution of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS).
The Inspector-General of Police made the announcement around 1.30 pm at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
IGP Adamu said the police unit is dissolved across all formations, the 36 state commands, and the Federal Capital Territory.

6. FG BLACKMAILING VARSITY WORKERS INTO ENROLLING ON IPPIS –ASUU
The Academic Staff Union of Universities has described the directive stopping the salaries of university employees, who have not enrolled on the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System, as blackmail to weaken workers and make them enroll on the platform.
The Chairman of the University of Port Harcourt Branch of ASUU, Dr Austen Sado, who spoke on Sunday, explained that though some of his colleagues had not been paid salaries since February, the union would not be cowed into enrolling on IPPIS.
Sado, who spoke on the telephone, said, “It (directive to stop salaries) clearly shows that there is something the Federal Government is not telling the people. They are not paying us (some lecturers). So, why are they saying by November?
“What they are doing now is just blackmail and threat to see how they would weaken our members to go and enroll (on IPPIS). People who have not enrolled are not being paid; some people for eight months, some for three, going to four months. I have not been paid salary since July, while some people have not been paid since February.
7. FG BUDGETS N418M FOR TOWN HALL MEETINGS, OPINION POLLS, OTHERS
The Federal Ministry of Information and Culture will in 2021 spend N418 million on organising town hall meetings, conducting opinion polls, and showcasing government projects across the country.
N174 million would be spent on town hall meetings on topical issues while N75.5million was earmarked for nationwide opinion poll and survey on government policies and programmes.

8.How SARS ‘Kidnapped’ Microtraction Founder, Bundle Africa CEO, Yele Bademosi
Microtraction founder and Chief Executive Officer of Bundle Africa, Yele Bademosi, has revealed that he had been kidnapped by operatives of Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) late last year. He made this known while sharing his experience in the hands of SARS.
Bademosi said he was two minutes close to his house in Lekki, Lagos State when the SARS operatives stopped him to pick him up. He was kidnapped around 10:30 pm, and was drove around from Lekki to Ajah.
What Was Bademosi’s Offence?
They claimed he was a yahoo boy (online Fraudsters) for having messages with foreigners on his telegram app – Bademosi operate Microtraction, a startup-focus investment firm and Bundle Africa, cryptocurrency company.
Despite accusing him of being a yahoo boy, Bademosi wasn’t taken to any police station.
He said during the drive around, the SARS operatives harassed several individuals and motorists, extorting and robbing them. According to Bademosi, from Ajah, the SARS operatives also drove to Ikoyi, while still harassing other people they meet on the road.
SARS Request For Money In Naira And US Currency To Free Him
Bademosi said he was also taken to a place on the mainland, near thee international airport. He said because he deals more with bitcoin, he had only NGN50,000 in his UBA account, and they demanded and collected it from him.
According to Bademosi, they also demanded that he transfer money from his US account to his GTBank account in order to give them. While disclosing how he was later allowed to go after extorting him, Bademosi stated that the SARS operatives took his phones, wallet, house key and Apple Watch, but ignored his identity card.

“On October 2019, I got kidnapped by SARS, I was less than 2 mins from my home, they refused to listen to anything I said and took me from Lekki, to Ajah then all the way to Ikoyi, whilst stopping and harassing other young adults, I’m not sure how many cars they stopped and robbed.
“They took my phones, wallet, house key, my Apple Watch, didn’t care about my ID cards and claimed I was a Yahoo Boy because I had messages on telegram with foreigners. They demanded N1m from me, made a “fake” phone call to their commander, and said I would sleep in prison.
“They stopped at the end of Eko Bridge and demanded more money before driving me to somewhere on the mainland near the international airport. I don’t keep a lot of Naira on me as am long Bitcoin, and only had N51,000 in my account, which they asked me to withdraw at a UBA ATM.
“They forced me to open my US bank accounts and said I should transfer USD from my Bank of America account to my GTB. I cried and prayed because I didn’t know what to do and couldn’t understand why and how this was happening. It was one of the scariest experiences of my life.
“I couldn’t call anyone, no one knew where I was, and if they harmed or killed me, there was nothing that would have happened to them, it didn’t matter what I had done, or who I was, all they saw was a young man and they were hell-bent on taking as much they could from.”

9. FG sets aside N336m to combat hate speech and fake news
N336 million has been set aside to combat hate speech and fake news by the federal ministry of information and culture.
This allocation was a part of the 2021 national budget presented to the national assembly on Thursday by President Muhammadu Buhari.
It reads in part, “ERGP9124023 Special enlightenment campaign on government policies and programmes; testimonial series to gauge the impact of government policies on the citizenry, advocacy against fake news, hate speech, farmers-herder clashes, banditry, rape etc. ongoing- N336,015,959.”
This government has been keen on tackling hate speech and perceived fake news despite outcry from right groups that such moves stifle freedom of expression and speech.
Nigeria has recorded 163 more COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours while discharging 24 patients that have recovered from the virus.
This was disclosed on Sunday night by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control.
According to the NCDC, the new cases were recorded in 11 states with Lagos having the highest figure of 113 cases.
Other states were Kaduna with 21, Osun with eight, Ondo and Oyo with five, Ogun with three, Bayelsa and Taraba with two, Edo, Katsina, Plateau, Katsina and FCT each having one case.
With the new infections, Nigeria now has a total caseload of 60,266. Of that figure, however, 51,735 have recovered while 1,115 have, unfortunately, died.
Lagos State has remained the epicentre of the virus with nearly 20,022 cases.
