A Nigerian musician by name Edrees Abdulkareem has criticized the northern leaders and governors for deporting Almajiri’s resident in their states. Governors of many northern states began deporting Almajiri’s back to their state of origin as a result of the Corona virus pandemic which is now a major health challenged.
What angered the musician was the claim that the Almajiri’s have played an active political role in elections in the northern part of Nigeria. Politicians in the region benefited from the Almajiri system and now that there is a health crisis they are sending them back to their states of origin.
Edrees Abdulkareem even shared a photo of some Almajiti’s standing on the queue for INEC registration. Many notable personalities have condemned the northern leaders for treating the Almajiri the way they did instead of finding a lasting solution to the Almajiri scourge.
The singer has been a very vocal critic of what he perceives to be injustice in the country. Although he is very old in the Nigerian music industry many people think that he is not doing enough to remain relevant as a musician like many other musicians.
