2023: Okezie emerges Labour Party Standard bearer for Umuahia East in Abia
Goldennewsng reports that Augustine Okezie, a former chieftain of the All Progressive Congress, has emerged the House of Assembly candidate for the Umuahia East constituency of Abia State on the platform of Labour Party (LP), ahead of the main elections in 2023.
He emerged through affirmation, in a well-participated primary election by party members and delegates, monitored by national leadership of the Labour Party and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
It was earlier reported that Augustine Okezie Meregini, had on May 2022, withdrawn his aspiation under the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC)
He made this known in a letter, addressed to the Ndume Ward Chairman of the All Progressive Congress in Umuahia East constituency of Abia State, issued to newsmen in Umuahia, the state capital.
Okezie said, “the decision is borne out of the continuous internal crisis of the party in Abia State and the decision of the NWC to share the yet-to-be-conducted elective positions in the forthcoming party primaries, which I believe is against the democratic principle of fairness.
“It is regrettable that I am left with no choice under the circumstances, having put in a lot over the years to help build the party in the state”.
Meanwhile, speaking shortly after his emergence during the concluded House of Assembly Primaries held in Umuahia east state constituency, Okezie assured people of the Umuahia east of effective and responsive representations when elected in the Abia House of Assembly come 2023
