In Nigeria, there exists a wealth of determined and talented students from low-income backgrounds who possess the potential to excel academically. However, many of these students face significant barriers, primarily financial constraints and limited access to information, hindering their educational aspirations.
Recognizing this challenge, the United States Embassy in Nigeria has continued its commitment for the 11th consecutive year to support academically qualified and highly motivated students through the EducationUSA Opportunity Funds Program (OFP).
The primary mission of the OFP is to empower talented low-income students who demonstrate academic promise but lack the financial means to cover the initial costs associated with pursuing higher education in the United States. By closely collaborating with students through regular meetings and seminars, the program aims to guide them through the intricate application process, facilitating their admission and securing scholarships at U.S. colleges and universities.
OFP shoulders the financial burden of the application process, covering registration fees for standardized examinations and offering complimentary membership to the U.S. EducationUSA Advising Center for all participants. In return, OFP expects a genuine commitment from students to invest their time and effort in the program, thereby increasing their chances of realizing their dream of studying in the United States.
