5 LASU Students Qualify To Represent Nigeria At FISU World University Games
Five students from Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, have achieved qualification to represent Nigeria at the Federation Internationale Du Sport Universitaire (FISU) World University Games, which will take place in China from July 28 to August 8.
These accomplished athletes are as follows:
- Aminat Oluwafunke Ilori – Badminton (Female), studying Business Administration/Management Sciences.
- Simeon Abiodun Akinsola – Badminton (Male), studying HKSHE/Education.
- Oluwasegun Obasanjo Idowu – Badminton (Male), studying HKSHE/Education.
- Oluwatosin Ihaza – Judo (Male, 81kg), studying History/Education.
- Mujeeb Adewuyi – Athletic 110 meters Hurdles (Male), studying Computer Science/Science.
These talented individuals earned their qualifications by winning medals at the FISU World Qualifying Games, held at the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Edo State, from May 8 to May 14.
Dr. Segun Olawunmi, the Director of Sports and Recreation at LASU, accompanied by Deputy Director Mr. Owoyemi Idowu and other technical officials, expressed their delight at the achievements of these LASU athletes during the qualifying games. Dr. Olawunmi stated, “We are pleased that these five LASU athletes will be part of the Nigerian contingent at the FISU World University Games.”
It is worth mentioning that the 32nd FISU University Games were initially scheduled to be held in Yekaterinburg, Russia, in 2021. However, due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the hosting rights were transferred to the city of Chengdu, China.
