2023: PDP to settle for Consensus Candidates in Niger

As plans for the 2023 General elections draw closer, the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in Niger state on Thursday disclosed that it shall first consider a consensus for the emergence of its candidates before other options.

Making this known at the state expanded Zonal Executive meeting of the party for Niger East Senatorial District, the State Chairman, Barrister Tanko Beji said “nobody has any party ticket for any aspirant in Minna; aspirants will be determined by the people”.

Bar Tanko Beji who addressed thousands of party faithful from the 9 local Government Areas of the Niger East comprising, Chanchaga, Bosso, Paikoro, Munya, Rafi, Suleja, Shiroro, Tafa and Gurara said “as a family, we will first consider consensus and they shall be capable hands”.

According to him “we shall consider the option of consensus for all contestable positions, where it fails then we shall conduct a free and fair primaries for all candidates to emerge”.

In her Remark, leader of the Party in the State, Senator Zaynab A. Kure prayed for return of peace in troubled local Government Areas, adding thay, “the PDP won 2015 and 2019 elections but some people did what they did and today God is showing us himself and to appreciate him.”

She then lamented what she describe as the sorry state of Niger state today, saying “we will do our best to liberate Niger state from its sorry state”.

Various speakers at the meeting including former Deputy Governor Dr. Shem Zagbayi Nuhu, Hon Baba Shehu Agaie, Engr. Mukhtar Ahmed Suleja, former Ministers A. H. Gimba and Abubakar A. Tanko.
