The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has extended an invitation to the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, to appear at its headquarters in the Jabi area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. This development follows closely on the heels of her suspension from office, as announced by Tinubu.
Edu is under scrutiny due to a memo that has sparked controversy. The memo allegedly instructed the Accountant-General of the Federation, Oluwatoyin Madein, to transfer N585 million designated for vulnerable groups in Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Ogun, and Lagos states into a private account owned by one Oniyelu Bridget.
The EFCC’s invitation suggests an interest in investigating the financial transactions associated with the aforementioned memo and the alleged diversion of funds. The timing of the invitation shortly after her suspension raises questions about the potential connection between the two events.
