President Bola Tinubu has implemented a significant 60 percent reduction in the travel expenditure of government officials within his administration. This decision, revealed by Presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday, is part of the Presidency’s broader cost-cutting measures.
The directive encompasses the offices of the President, Vice President, First Lady, Ministers, and heads of agencies. Ngelale emphasized that it is not a mere request but a firm directive from Tinubu. The reduction in state entourages is expected to impact official travel expenses by 60 percent.
As a result of this directive, the President is now limited to traveling with a maximum of 20 staff members outside the country. Furthermore, ministers are restricted to having only four staff members accompany them on foreign trips, while heads of agencies are limited to just two.
Tinubu has also conveyed that he will no longer travel with extensive security delegations when visiting any state within the country. Instead, security within the visited state will be responsible for the safety of the President, Vice President, and other high-ranking government officials.
