The lawmaker representing Niger East Senatorial District, Senator Mohammed Sani Musa has disclosed that the condition of road infrastructure in the state, particularly those owned by the federal government are deplorable.

Senator Sani Musa in a statement he personally issued to felicitate with Nigerians on the 1st October Day, also expressed concern over the insecurity that has bedeviled the people of his constituency.

Senator Musa however commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his doggedness at addressing the security challenges in the country, but appealed to him to speedup the completion of many road projects his administration has embarked upon in the state.

He regretted that many of the roads have become unmotorable and challenges to the people.

Accordingly, he said “we appeal to Mr President to do more for us. He should help in fast tracking the completion of the ongoing road projects his administration has started in our dear state.

“Road issue affects development in our state. There are over 2000 kilometres of federal roads in Niger state, but there is no single one that is in good condition.

“The Minna-Suleja road is a nightmare for both motorists and commuters. Our people cannot transport their farm produce to the markets. Traders used to come from various parts of the country and even abroad to buy from the farmers, but today many of them are afraid of coming, either due to the fear of being kidnapped or because of the deplorable conditions of our roads.”

He also called on the federal government to provide more security for his people saying, “our people are predominantly farmers. But the challenge of insecurity has crippled their activities thereby subjecting them to untold hardship and economic difficulties. They can’t go to their farms for the fear of being kidnapped.

“Both the president and our amiable governor’s efforts at addressing the security issues in the country are commendable.”

Furthermore, while saying it is heartwarming to celebrate Nigeria at 60, he said the current reality where many of the people he represents cannot enjoy peace due to banditry activities, leaves much to be desired of the celebration.

The lawmaker however urged the people not to loose hope in Nigeria but to remain hopeful, prayerful and believe that all will be well.

He assured that on his part, he would continue to pursue vigorously all policies, laws and programmes that will impart positively on the people’s wellbeing.
