In a move to reduce economic hardship and support struggling families in Nigeria, the Ondo State Government has started disbursing over N1.2 billion to residents under the Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) scheme. This second phase of the programme will benefit 16,255 low-income individuals and households across the state.

The official launch took place on Friday, October 11, 2024, at the Akure South Local Government Secretariat, where Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa flagged off the new round of payments. Speaking at the event, the governor emphasised the importance of the programme in helping ordinary people meet their daily needs during tough economic times.

“This initiative is not just about giving money,” the governor said. “It’s about restoring dignity, giving people a sense of belonging, and helping them build something for themselves and their families.”

Each beneficiary will receive N75,000, paid in three monthly instalments of N25,000. The funds will be paid directly through the new Renewed Hope Debit Cards, making it easier and safer for recipients to access their money.

This second phase represents a significant scale-up from the previous one, which took place in November 2024 and resulted in a total of 8,637 people receiving N647 million. Now, with over 16,000 beneficiaries and more than N1.2 billion in circulation, the impact is expected to reach every corner of the state.

The cash transfer covers all 18 local government areas in Ondo State, reaching both urban and rural communities. Local officials confirmed that the first set of payments has already started, and all cards will be activated before the end of October.

During the event, the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi, also praised the programme. He commended the governor for his leadership and commitment to policies that directly benefit the people.

“Governor Aiyedatiwa continues to show that he listens to the people. This programme proves he understands what the average family is going through,” the monarch said.

The Conditional Cash Transfer is part of a wider national effort under the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope agenda, coordinated by the National Social Investment Programme Agency. The aim is to give financial relief to households that need it most—especially those running small businesses or struggling with the rising cost of living.

Governor Aiyedatiwa encouraged beneficiaries to use the funds wisely.
