Babachir Lawal, a former Secretary to the Federation’s Government, has stated that he is a fervent supporter of Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi.
Goldennewsng reports that Lawal insisted in a Monday interview that he would not back the People’s Democratic Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
He said that Atiku’s ambition wouldn’t work because it would mean that the government would change from one Muslim Fulani President to another.
Lawal was responding to a report that he was working for Atiku rather than Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate.
“I remain a Peter Obi diehard,” he said, warning that if Atiku got his way, he would represent ethnic dominance by one ethnic group over others.
Lawal reiterated his support for Obi in a statement.
“I have just seen trending news that I have abandoned Peter Obi to work for Atiku Abubakar,” the statement read in part. Nothing could be further from the truth than this. Since its inception, I have never considered joining the PDP because I consider it to be the worst form of oligarchs and reactionaries.
In addition, every year I find myself fighting Fulani herdsmen who are determined to have their animals invade my farms and consume my crops.
This is in addition to their determination to occupy my kin’s ancestral farmlands as they do everywhere else in the North. All of these things they do with arrogance while their powerful relatives in the government remain silent.
Furthermore, I consider the worst form of Muslim-Muslim ticket to be a government change from one Muslim Fulani President to another. It likewise addresses ethnic mastery by one ethnic gathering over others. I stay a Peter Obi fanatic. False news is any information to the contrary.
