Chief Edwin Clark, a national leader of the Ijaw people and convener of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), has chosen Peter Obi, the Labour Party, LP, presidential candidate, as his candidate for the February elections.
Goldennewsng reports that Clark, who is currently addressing journalists at his Asokoro Residence in Abuja, stated that Nigeria will unite under Obi’s leadership through his plan to reorganize the country.
In the same way that he suggested that the South East should be allowed to produce the country’s next president because the region has the resources and educated individuals to do so, Clark asserted that the person who must be the country’s next president must be educated and experienced.
“I have since been fully briefed on the successful outcome of the interaction held at that occasion,” Clark stated. I have, among other things, taken note of the following findings from the meeting: That the PANDEF presented the Presidential Candidate with the expectations and demands of the people of the Niger Delta, which included, among other things, infrastructure development, power devolution, resource control, and effective and inclusive participation in the oil and gas sector.
“That His Excellency Peter Obi’s vision statement, which he presented at the event, relates to making Nigeria more productive by utilizing the rich resource endowment in every part of the country; eradicating waste and combating corruption; what’s more, making position for our abounding young people through imaginative drives is entirely exemplary.
That his reiterated commitment to power devolution and restructuring will foster peace and harmony among the nation’s states and constituent parts.
“His vision for greater equity and justice in the South-South region, which has produced much of the national economy’s revenue over the past 60 years but has been neglected with little impact on social and infrastructure development, is convincing and commendable.
“Given that even the ongoing Ogoni clean-up has been rather sluggish, Peter Obi’s commitment to environmental justice in the cleanup of the polluted communities in the Niger Delta is very much to be commended.
If elected, “his commitment to include qualified people from the Niger Delta in the national governance process is very reassuring.”
